As Canadians celebrate the holiday season with gifts and feasts, Health Canada has issued a warning regarding a choking hazard posed by certain stuffed toys. On Christmas Eve, the agency announced a recall for 120 units of Mother and Baby plush toys sold by Chantia Sales, a Toronto-based company. The recall affects elephant, giraffe, lion, tiger, and panda plush toys that feature both a mother and baby version. These toys, manufactured in China and sold in Canada between May 2023 and December 2024, were found to have hard plastic eyes that can detach, presenting a choking risk to young children. Health Canada’s testing revealed that the toys did not meet safety standards under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
